Sanjay Calls Aamir Tharki Chokro

Famous Marathi film composers Ajay-Atul, popular for the fiery Chikni Chameli number from Hrithik Roshan’s Agneepath, have been roped in for a peppy number in PK, which has been filmed on Sanjay Dutt and Aamir Khan. Director Rajkumar Hirani wanted a Rajasthani feel for this song which speaks of the actors camaraderie in the film. The song is called Tharki chokro, it has a Rajasthani twang and has been sung by popular Rajasthani singer Swaroop Khan.

He was first spotted on the fifth season of Indian Idol and given a break in one of Bappi Lahiris albums. This is his second outing in a Bollywood film. When asked, Atul of the music composer duo says, “Its a matter of coincidence that we are on this project. We never appear as guest composers for one song in any movie. We made that exception only because we love and adore Raju Hirani and wanted to salute his work with a great composition of ours. He had only given us four days to come up with the number. And we kept the deadline.”

Its a four-minute song in which Sanjay addresses Aamir as a tharki chokra. The tune is quite catchy and has a typical classic Rajasthani feel to it. The reason we roped in Swaroop is that he has that rustic Rajasthani mitti ki awaaz. He was perfect and got the song right in one go. Now, were waiting for the audience to react to this number. Our fingers are crossed, says Atul.
